Collect

Confirmed

Visit the available laboratory selected at checkout for a blood draw. Quest859 requires 1 mL serum, minimum 0.3 mL, in a serum separator tube, transported at room temperature; stability is seven days at room temperature or refrigerated and 28 days frozen. Labcorp002188 accepts serum, preferred, or lithium-heparin plasma: 1 mL, minimum 0.7 mL, with red-top, gel-barrier or green-top lithium-heparin tubes. Transfer separated red-top serum or plasma into a plastic transport tube. Do not use oxalate, EDTA or citrate plasma. Store at room temperature; listed stability is 14 days at room temperature, refrigerated or frozen. Improper labeling and citrate plasma are rejected. BioReference0150-3 is the NJ, NY and RI option; its detailed volume, tube and handling requirements have not been independently verified. Follow that collection site's instructions rather than applying another laboratory's handling rules. This is not a home kit or challenge protocol. No fasting is required. Tell your clinician and collection site about biotin supplements and thyroid medicines, including dose and last dose time. Mito suggests about 48 hours without high-dose biotin; Labcorp specifies at least 72 hours. Confirm the interval for your selected laboratory before collection. Do not stop prescribed medicines without clinician advice.

The balance

The Strengths. The Tradeoffs.

Strengths

  • Online ordering includes the required laboratory order through Mito.
  • Measures total triiodothyronine (T3), including its protein-bound and free fractions together. This is one hormone measurement, not free T3, reverse T3 or T3 uptake. TSH, T4 and thyroid antibodies are not included.
  • Results are delivered to the Mito dashboard after laboratory processing.

Watch-outs

  • Labcorp and Quest are offered in 47 states and Washington, DC; BioReference is offered in NJ, NY and RI. Laboratory selection and price depend on your state.
  • The starting test price of $8.07 is the Quest Diagnostics nonmember option outside NJ, NY and RI, before its separate order fee. Other laboratory options have different prices and fees.
  • Quest Diagnostics test 859, for 47 states and Washington, DC, excluding NJ, NY and RI: $8.07 without membership or $5.76 with optional $9 monthly membership, plus a separate $15.00 order fee.
  • BioReference test 0150-3, for NJ, NY and RI: $10.59 without membership or $7.56 with optional $9 monthly membership, plus a separate $9.50 order fee.
  • Labcorp test 002188, for 47 states and Washington, DC, excluding NJ, NY and RI: $16.10 without membership or $11.50 with optional $9 monthly membership, plus a separate $11.50 order fee.
  • Membership is optional. The final checkout total, cancellation and refund terms remain unverified.
  • Typical results take about 1 day; this is not a guaranteed order-to-result deadline.
  • Total T3 can change with binding proteins, pregnancy, estrogen use, nutrition and nonthyroidal illness. It is not a standalone diagnosis or a reliable test for ruling out hypothyroidism. Interpret it with TSH, other thyroid tests and clinical history.
  • No fasting is required.
  • Results appear in the Mito dashboard after laboratory processing. A personalized action plan requires membership; live consultations cost extra.
  • This test is marked HSA/FSA eligible. Your plan determines individual eligibility and reimbursement.
